Samsung NC20 Review

The Samsung NC20 is another laptop with great display from the house of Samsung after the release of NC10 in the market. It is a powerful machine and has great features. The netbook’s processor VIA Nano U2250 and graphics configuration make it stand different from the rest of the available options in the market. NC20 is perfect for an office set up.

Build & Design

The Samsung NC20 has a sturdy construction with no bend, simple in design yet stylish enough to attract the consumers. It is sleek with 1.2 inches in width and weighs only 3.4 pounds. A glossy metal belt is present all around the front and sides, which ensures the durability and reliability of the machine. The white design with matte plastic finish is very appealing and good for all kinds of users. The battery is placed at the back of notebook and held strongly by two latches.

The Samsung NC20 has a great display with 12.1 LCD and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The display is nice and has crisp quality, extra pixels and a large LCD screen, which enables you to watch movies and browse with better viewing experience. There are eight brightness levels in NC20, but the lowest one is hardly used. Though the display is quite bright and shiny with yellow tint, yet it is quite good in presence of sunlight. S3 ScreenToys control panel is present, which can help you to adjust the display.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The keyboard of Samsung NC20 is quite wonderful withhighly desirable and dedicated ‘Pg Up’ and ‘Pg Down’ keys. The keyboard fits well into the space and is a width centimeter wider than that of the NC10. The keyboard is quite spacious with bigger keys and a nice spacing between the keys. The extra width will make you feel comfortable while typing. Even though the keys have got to make a less travel, but still nice action and the feel overall is very pleasant. As in most cases of Samsung products, keys are treated with Silver Nano technology to prevent the spread of bacteria, still the appearance is similar to the normal plastic ones.

The touchpad of Samsung NC20 is large and enables you to cover a wider screen in one swipe. There is single touchpad button in the centre, which behaves like two buttons. The surface of its touchpad is smooth and quite responsive. It performs multitasks allowing scrolling and pinching. A vertical scroller is present on the right. The power button is also placed on the right side hinge, which glows blue when the notebook is on.

Performance & Benchmarks

The Samsung NC20 is power driven by the all new Nano U2250 processor from VIA, which has been clocked at 1.3GHz, and Chrome9 HC3 graphics from VIA. Even though the clocked speed (1.3GHZ) is low, but sufficient for doing basic tasks. The hard drive is slow when you want to transfer some data. However, the Nano U2250 ran the wPrime 32M processor faster than the other processor. It is quick with transparent widows and file decryption but a bit slow at pixel reading, file encryption and virus scan.

When you talk about the battery performance of Samsung NC20, it does not let you down. A 6-cell battery powers the netbook. The battery last for nearly 4 hrs and 30 minutes when used without any restrictions. However, when some battery saving tips are used, the battery lasts for another 30mins. The recharging of the battery starts as soon as the charge level is below 98% in order to decrease the number of charge cycles.
