Asus Eee PC 1000HE Review

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is the newest laptop from ASUS and flaunts a brand new keyboard and has an Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor. If you want a notebook with a longer battery life and reasonable price then this one is the god choice for the user.

Build & Design

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is sturdy in construction and build up with long-lasting plastics throughout, which keep its panel bend free. It has a black shiny lid and port placement. The laptop is a bit thinner, yet a little heavy with a weight of 3lbs. A three set of USB input is present around the periphery of the chassis and fits well in its backpack. A 1.3-megapixel webcam is present above the screen and a pair of microphones below. It features three USB ports, an Ethernet port, headphone and microphone jacks, an SD, SDHC and MMC memory card reader and a VGA output.

The 10.1-inch LCD display is present in the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE. The display is bright and good color is produced. Apart from that, backlight levels in the phone are very bright and consistent. A shining coating makes the image look good and popped out. Its panels give different viewing angles with the vertical one in 1000HE stays accurate for longer time. Horizontal angle allows you to share movie with someone on other side. The screen is small in size which is a down side.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE has a brand new keyboard with chicklet style. The keys are well spaced, so expect no cramping, which makes you feel very comfortable to type as keys action are smooth. The Shift Key is placed to the right of the up arrow. The new layout makes you commit less error while typing.

The Elantech touchpad with multitouch functions and metal framing is what the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE features. The touchpad is not very sensitive and response is slow. After using it constantly, the touchpad surface gradually comes off up on one side, but after pressing it back down it goes back to it state and doesn’t come up again. The touchpad is big enough and can be triggered from anywhere to its edge centre and all. The pad is somewhat uneasy to control.

Performance & Benchmarks

The performance of ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is driven on Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz with faster clock speed. The audio is good but absence of good subwoofer makes the laptop not being an option for. The heat and noise produced from the cooling fan is less. The video and gaming performance is average and the system performance is good for basic applications such as web browsing, typing document, editing photos. Hard drive Seagate 5400.5 access time is slower than the other. It is a good netbook with a longer battery life and a reasonable price.

The battery of ASUS Eee PC 1000HE has a high capacity of 63Wh and is larger. The battery continues tp last for 7 hours and 36 minutes when the wireless is active and the processor in auto mode. It can be made to last longer for 9.5 hours if you deactivate the wireless card, use the processor in power saving mode and reduce the brightness of the screen. You can carry it out for long time without running out of battery.

ASUS F6Ve Review

The ASUS F6Ve is amongst the fastest laptop released by ASUS till date and has been equipped with a processor2.66GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 and ATI Radeon Mobility 4570 graphics card into a 13.3″ chassis. It is not gaming desktop and a bit outdated in design, but a fast one for running many applications, compressing music files and video ones.

Build & Design

The ASUS F6Ve design is old-fashioned, as you might not be expecting from ASUS. The F6Ve has a lustrous tinted lid with a Spirograph-type pattern that is hardly noticeable. The palm rest is made up of plastic, which gives it a cheap look and the keys are non-lustrous. The machine has a high performance, but the build it has doesn’t support its performance. It is made up of plastic smart, which makes noise. The whole chassis is made of plastic, which makes it unappealing and unattractive. This build up is not what you may desire in a desktop with high caliber.

The ASUS F6Ve has 13.3″ WXGA Glossy LCD display, which is quite average when you consider other products of similar range. It uses the old screen format 16:10. Even though the panel is shiny but not very much reflective so reflection are less and so you have fewer glare shining back at you. The display quality is average, with sharp and exciting colors, which is common for shiny displays. When you take a view by a vertical angle, you can view few sweet spots before the colors starts to fade whereas horizontal viewing angles are far superior as the colors do not fade away even at steep angles.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS F6Ve has a full-size keyboard, but lacks multimedia keys. The keys on the right side of the keyboard are shrunken, so that the page navigation keys can fit well. It is quite comfortable to type on and it reacts by giving a smooth clicked when pressed. However, at certain times, keyboard is not good, as it produces some bend feeling while typing. The touchpad the F6Ve is from Synaptics, which is comfortable for you to use with no pause while using. The buttons are positioned so well that you will have no problem to trigger and it reacts by producing mild click. A force has to be applied to trigger.

Performance & Benchmarks

The ASUS F6Ve performance is good and it is power driven byIntel 2.66 GHz T9550 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 graphics card, which work very fast. If you desire an affordable notebook for gaming, then this 13.3″ notebook is a good bet, as it has been designed to run many applications at the same time. It is a best in terms of features, but there is a lot of scope for improvement.

The battery performance of ASUS F6Ve was quite dissatisfactory. The battery lasted for only 2 hours and 56 minutes, which is quite low. However, considering the fast processor and video card, you can accept the available battery life.

If the design and look can be made more attractive, then ASUS F6V will surely have a good response in the market.

Specifications of ASUS F6Ve:

Processor: 2.66GHz T9550 Core2Duo Processor from Intel

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory: 4GB DDR2 800 SDRAM

Display: 13.3″ WXGA Glossy LCD

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA hard disk drive (5400RPM)

Weight: 4lbs 14oz with battery, 5lbs 12oz travel weight

Dimensions: 12.2″ x 9″ x 1.2-1.4″

Pros: The performance is good, a nice keyboard

Cons: The design is outdated, build and design is not of high quality, which gives it a cheap look that doesn’t go as per its price.

MSRP: $1,299.99 (base price)

ASUS W90 Review

ASUS W90 brings into the market a laptop with great multimedia features. The ASUS W90 is another top-notch product from ASUS. It is a new gaming laptop, which has come out to rule over the current lot of laptops.

W90 is a high entertainment machine and supports 18.4-inch display panel, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2 or HD 3850 X2 dual graphics cards and 6GB of DDR2 SDRAM. This laptop is a good one for home user and gamers, who desires for a notebook with powerful multimedia features.

Build & Design

The ASUS W90 has a gaming notebook design, which means that it is pretty good and stylish. However, with all the high-end gaming features, the laptop is on the heavier side and weighs 13lbs. The chassis is 18.4-inch, which is in itself quite large. Still, the color is quite good with black brushed-metal and a small size ASUS logo inscribed in the front and center. It has an excellent build quality, strong frame and 3 cooling fans, which does not allow the notebook to bend when lifted. It looks almost like a tank with respect to size and weight.

The ASUS W90 power driven by Intel features an 18.4-inch ultra high bright LCD display. The LCD is covered with a sheet of plastic over it, which gives the notebook a stylish and a clean appearance. It has a gorgeous LCD with a resolution of1920×1080 (pixel) and a 16:9 aspect ratio. This resolution is good for enjoying a 1080p movie without stretching or scaling the screen. The brightly lit screen gives a great color quality with good contrast and wide viewing angles, which makes watching videos without any hassle. When the display lid is bent by an angle 45, a strange behavior is noticed as W90 wants to shut off.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS W90 has a full size keyboard and it fits well as its frame is 18.4″ and still some space is available for touch sensitive media keys on one side. The large keyboard deck has a black brushed-metal finish with a shiny black bezel that frames the keyboard. The keys are square in shape, which common to the ASUS laptops. The keys are comfortable for you to continue typing for long without straining your fingers. The key when pressed reacts back by producing a quiet crumpling plastic sound, so you can feel the action of the keys, which are very smooth. The touchpad of ASUS is sizeable and large, but with inclined edges around the border. The surface of the touchpad is smooth and has a matte texture. It is easy to use and you don’t have to apply force to click.

Performance & Benchmarks

The ASUS W90 can be easily counted amongst the fastest gaming notebook with Intel Core2Duo T9600 processor and dual ATI Radeon Mobility 4870 graphics cards added to it. Crysis, a game, can be played by the gamers only in this desktop. It is an excellent powerhouse of multimedia and number one graphics performer.

Battery performance of ASUS W90 is not that great, as it is a gaming notebook. Battery consumes more than other laptops and battery life is 1 hour and 30 minutes before it shutdown. The power can be saved by displaying one of the graphics card from BIOS. However, this is worthless doing, as it will make battery last for 20-30 minutes more but this makes us lose the graphics card from hardware.

Specifications of ASUS W90

Processor: 2.8GHz T9600 Core2Duo from Intel

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory: 6GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM

Display: 18.4″ Glossy FHD LCD

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA, 7200RPM

Weight: 13lbs

Dimensions: 17.4″ x 12.91″ x 2.48″

Pros: Display is beautiful, comfortable keyboard

Cons: Weighs like a tank and battery life not decent

MSRP: $2,199.99 (Base Price)

ASUS N81Vp Laptop Review

ASUS N81Vp is the new 14.1″ multimedia laptop, which has been designed to handle everything a user can throw at it. Whether it’s decoding HD videos or playing the latest games, N81Vp performs the task with perfection. ASUS have packed with this notebook, a 4GB RAM along with a Core2Duo T9550 processor from Intel along with a 4650 Graphics Card from ATI having 1GB GDDR3 memory. The makers have not targeted any gaming market directly. Still if you look at the specs on hand, there is no reason why ASUS N81Vp cannot be counted amongst the high performing notebooks in 14.1″.

Build & Design

The ASUS N81Vp has got a very low key design, which makes it look classy from the outside.  The exterior of N81VP has been given a dark bronze and glossy black metallic paint finish with vertical broken-line pinstripe patterns. Inside, its color changes to ash-gold finish with similar pinstripe patterns on the palm rest and trimmed with chrome buttons on touchpad along with a black keyboard. Design is nice and appears similar to HP DV Series.

You will find the build quality to be above average with durable plastics that are used throughout their chassis. Fit and finish of the ASUS N81Vp is excellent and has no panel overhangs or rough edges. The chassis of the notebook is also very rigid with very little flex on the palm rest. Screen cover offers good protection and will show no ripples when you press your finger on the back of its LCD.

The 1366×768 16:9 ratio screen of the ASUS N81Vp is quite good when compared to similar size systems. It has an excellent contrast and color saturation features available from its glossy surface. You will find the backlight levels to be quite high and the bleed is also minimal around the ages. Screen of the N81Vp is usable even outdoors, till you are in shade for preventing it from the direct glare of the sun. Viewing angles are not flashy but average with screen quickly inverting at low angles and complete washout at higher angles. However, horizontal viewing angle is good and has minimum distortion.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Keyboard of ASUS N81Vp is a full-size one with no condensed key around its border. However, arrangement of the keys could have been better considering it is meant for high-end gaming. Function keys have been placed on the far left of the notebook taking the place of control button. Still, typing on this keyboard is comfortable, as little pressure is required for activating individual keys. Keys have matte finishing, which gives them a bit of traction when compared to the glossy key found on other laptops with similar features.

Large Synaptics touchpad of ASUS N81Vp is very responsive. You’ll find its sensitivity to be good after some adjustment. The matte surface texture is simple for gliding your fingers across, even if they are sweaty after a longer use. Touchpad buttons need a bit more pressure than others, which can get frustrating when working for prolonged hours.

Performance & Benchmarks

System performance, which you receive from the Core2Duo T9550 process of Intel and mobility Radeon 4650 of ATI, can be regarded well above the average when you consider a 14.1″ notebook. This system handles every modern game at native resolution. However, you will require tweaking the settings, if you wish to play Crysis on the ASUS N81Vp. Its 4GB RAM and 7200RPM Seagate drive allow the system to hum along with no hiccups and at a minimal load. Times for boot & shutdown are excellent and the speed is also visible in zippy installation of software to faster loading of the games.

Battery Life

Battery life of ASUS N81Vp is ordinary when compared to other 14″ laptops. However, not all of them have the T9550 processor or 4650 graphics card. It gives 2.5 hours of power when operated at full load.

Barring its shabby battery life, you will find no other reasons for not buying ASUS N81Vp. So get your piece at only $1,399 from your nearest store, today!

Specifications of ASUS N81Vp

Processor: 2.66-GHz T9550 processor from Intel 6MB L2 Cache & 1066MHz FSB

Memory: 4GB 800MHz PC2-6400

Display: 14.1-inch TFT with LED backlighting

Hard drive: 320GB

Battery: 6-Cell 11.1v

Weight: 5lbs 11.1 oz

Cons: Battery Life is poor

ASUS G50V Review: Ultimate dream laptop for gamers

In this review, you will see that the “Republic of gamers” a.k.a the ASUS G50V, an ultimate dream laptop for gamers, is a part of a line of laptops targeted especially at the hardcore gamer segment of the market. If you are a gaming addict you would be more than interested in this gaming machine!

Build & Design

ASUS G50V has a strongly built model. The chassis is heavily built, and effectively resists torsion. The surface is strong and does not flex in. The display and the keyboard are tightly hinged and it would take a lot of stress to damage it. The overall build quality is excellent and will be able to withstand any stress and damages to an extent.

The design of ASUS G50V follows the gaming style for notebooks. It has four blue lights, which are placed on the top of the laptop which adds considerably to the looks department. The ASUS logo along with the Republic of Gamers logo is also inscribed on the top of the laptop. Some identity this laptop has!

ASUS G50V is a WSXGA+ 15.4-inch display. The screen is bright and has a very pleasing contrast ratio. Its glossy surrounding helps in bettering the colors of the screen. Its display is really pleasing to the eye and makes simple usage of the system a pleasurable experience. The display screen gives quality output from all viewing angles. It may however show discrepancies when viewed from top or bottom. The webcam is placed at the centre above the display and has a 1.3 mega pixel lens.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The keyboard of ASUS G50V is built for the gamer’s convenience. It is sturdily built and has a numeric keypad in the right of the keyboard. The welcome addition is the touch sensitive buttons placed on top of the keyboard, which are shortcuts to the frequently used functions.

Its touchpad is a black matte beauty. It is very comfortable to work with and tacking is never a problem. The buttons on the other hand produce sounds when used. This may not be pleasant and can irritate people around. It is however very good from the gamer’s view, always need to know whether you clicked or not!

Performance & Benchmarks

ASUS G50V is a performer and very suitable for the ardent gamers needs. Its memory is very fast and it can be improved further with faster hard disk drives. The hard disk may be tuned with better transfer rates. The Western Digital 250GB 5400RPM hard disk is relatively slow and may prove to be the only weak link of this otherwise excellent performing machine. The usual high endgames work very well with this laptop and may even work with the highest possible settings. The laptop satisfies the benchmarks of the Windows vista operating system.

Battery life

The average Battery time for ASUS G50V ranges from 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours based on the usage. This may seem to be very low but it is acceptable for a High end gaming laptop. The G50V-A1’s 6-cell battery is rated for 4800mAh, with 11.1V.

ASUS G50V’s performance stands as a testimony to the laptop’s labeling as a Gamers choice. Though the price may be exorbitant to pay for non-gamers it seems understandable as the laptop is not at all targeted at them. Gamers would want to flaunt this notebook around!

Specifications of ASUS G50V

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 (2.53GHz/6MB L2/1066MHz FSB/ 35W TDP)

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit w/ SP1

Memory: 4GB DDR2-800 RAM

Display: 15.4-inch WSXGA+ (1680×1050) glossy display

Hard drive: 2x 250GB 5400RPM SATA hard drives

Battery: 4800mAh, with 11.1V

Weight: 6.5 lbs

Dimensions: 14.2″ x 10.5″ x 1.1-1.6″

Pros: Stylish design and looks, sturdy built and strong body and surface, excellent WSXGA+ 15.4 inch display Quality and resolution, gaming Keyboard and Touchpad, various Communication ports, performance for Complete Gaming Experience, produces very little sound and does not heat up quickly, extra accessories like gaming mouse pad and other goodies.

Cons: A bit larger laptop than the other models in the segment, sound system does not live up to expectations, absence of dedicated shortcut buttons

MSRP: $ 1,640 (base price)

ASUS G71V Review: Well-equipped fast laptop

Read the ASUS G71V review below to find out how to get the perfect desktop replaceable well-equipped fast laptop! The ASUS G71V laptop has the most expensive configuration and makes use of the quad core processor that is designed for machines that are portable. It has a memory that is really good and about 1TB of the total disk space. It also is fitted with a high-end graphic card and a blue ray combo drive. It is an ideal notebook for gamming and also for movie playback and many more activities!

Build & Design

Coming to the design aspects of this note book, we find that the ASUS G71V is really ugly and has no aesthetic features about it that make it look appealing to the human eye. When you lift open the cover of this note book you will be looking into glossy plastic that is black in color and all over the keyboard. It also has a carbon fiber effect for the wrist and a red glossy finish that interweaves these two layers.  This is probably the only plus here.

This notebook is not very huge and measures up to a size of 10 inches. Though the size of the screen is small, ASUS G71V has a fairly good screen resolution.

Keyboard and touch pad

When you do think of a gamming laptop you are sure to think of the huge number of LED flashing lights that may appear on the note book. When you look at the ASUS G71V you are sure to get a shock as it has only two strips of LEDS on either side of the lid that run vertically. There is one framing the track pad of the mouse and yet another illuminating the front of this note book.

Performance and benchmarks

One of the biggest selling points of this fascinating note book is the quad core CPU. ASUS G71V makes use of an Intel core 2 extreme Q9300, one of the first four core CPUs designed especially for notebooks. Two dual cores are put together to form this quad core. One thing that the laptop compromises on is the 6MB of L2 cache memory instead of the 12MB that is found on most of the top end desktop core quad processors.

The ASUS G71V has a 3GB of high-speed DDR3 1366MHz memory. This is really good as many other manufactures go in for slower DDR2 with lesser memory in machines that are pitched for the high performance market. The G71V does not disappoint you in the department of graphics either. It makes use of the very potent GeForce of NVIDIA 9700M GT graphics card.

At the time when it was released the ASUS G71V was one of the fastest laptops that you could get your hands on. Despite it not having a dual graphic card it has got a really good score.

Battery life

The battery life is not the strong point on this note book but this doesn’t come in as a shocker as it is one of the notebooks that is designed especially for high performance gaming.

This 17-inch laptop that is designed for gaming with a quad core CPU is really fast and also well equipped. ASUS G71V does stream line the devices look but it is quite a hassle to handle it as it might break eventually when you keep opening and closing it.

Specifications of ASUS G71V:

Processor: quad core Intel extreme Q9300

Operating System: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory space: 1TB

Display: 1920×1200 pixels maximum

Battery technology: Li-ion, Size: 17 inches

Graphics processor: Nvidia GeForce 9700M GT

Memory speed: DDR3 1366MHz

Cache: 6MB of L2 memory

Pros: Device works unbeleivably fast, owing to its quad core CPU technology. Good screen Resolution for the small size.

Cons: Laptop does not look great, unnecessary provision of flaps that complicates handling

Price: $1,574

ASUS U6S Laptop review: Portability at its best

Small, sexy and stylish, as you will see in this review, the Asus U6S laptop, which can be described as portability at its best, is as light as a feather and functions as easy as pie. People do not expect much performance from ultra-portables, but one use of the U6S should bury their doubts forever.

Build and design

The build of Asus U6S is ergonomical and very easy to use, causing no fingertip pain. It has a glossy cover with chocolate colored paint that will attract attention and yes, fingerprints. There is also a leather wrist pad that comes with the brown lid and is made of real cow leather. Wonder why they chose such an option knowing very well the animal rights activists can get on their backs?!

The Asus U6S boasts of a 12.1-inch display. When viewing the screen vertically, the resultant screen quality decreases. There you might have to adjust the screen angle according to your requirements. Horizontally, the viewing angle is perfect and you should not have any problem watching movies etc with a bunch of friends. One of the best features of this laptop is the use of an LED backlit for the screen, which uses 30% less energy when compared to the standard CCFL using laptops. This enhances the already inefficient battery life of the laptop making it a wee bit better.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Like mentioned above, the Asus U6S possesses a fantastic keyboard. When typing, the keys do not flex like other laptops which shows the superior build and quality of the U6S. The touchpad is also very user friendly. The only glitch in the touchpad is the stiffness of the selector buttons. You might need to be an iron man to press any of these buttons so purchasing a separate USB mouse is recommended.

Otherwise, the build of the Asus U6S is fantastic and the battery doesn’t rattle and make noises unlike other laptops. It looks solid and durable on the outside and if the user handles this laptop well, it can be with you for a long time.

Performance & Benchmarks
Don’t be deceived by its size, Asus U6S may be small but it is just as fast and as efficient as the fastest laptops. The laptop gave us speed results that were the same as the Dell XPS series laptops!

Regarding graphics, the test results showed optimum levels of effectiveness which is pretty decent considering its more style oriented. Just like any other ultraportable, you can play the odd high definition game or two and watch HD movies with no flickering frame rates on interference at all which is pretty neat.

Battery life

While testing the battery life of this laptop, Asus U6S showed pretty low levels of effectiveness lasting only 40 minutes with its 2400mAh battery. This made the CPU over clock continuously making the laptop heated. After that we decided to test it with an add-on battery of 7800mAh and therefore lasting for ninety minutes. This is okay but the only demerit is that the extra battery makes the ultraportable heavier and also juts out from the back.

Finally, in conclusion, the Asus U6S is the God of ultraportables! It looks goods, performs well, the only drawback being its battery life but it is easy to carry making it a fantastic buy for any user. It is bound to be a favorite of many in the years to come.

Specifications of the Asus U6S

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T7500

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Business Edition

ASUS G50Vt Review: Gaming Laptop you must have

The Asus G50Vt is a gaming laptop you must have. As you will notice from this review, it has rolled up an array of hardware into a simple package, which is bulky but not expensive at all. The style of this laptop may not interest everyone but the life of its battery and the wall adapter along with the usable umbilical cord makes it available at a very affordable price.

The Asus G50Vt is available only in one configuration. It has a XGA display with a size of about 15.6 inches. The RAM size is 512MB and it has a 9800M GS graphic card that is driven by NVIDIA’s GeForce. It makes use of an Intel centrino 2 duo mobile processor of 2.26GHz. You also have a 320 GB hard drive and a 4GB of PC-5300 DDR2 RAM.

Build & Design

When you actually feel the size of the notebook, you think that this is some ancient model of the Asus. Asus G50Vt weighs about 7.3 pounds and is 1.6 inches thick. This book is designed especially for gamming. Though you do expect the notebook to be big, no one does expect to see this size. The outer design looks pretty interesting, but one wonders will it would last after a few months? A gaming laptop is definitely going to be subjected to a lot of pressure! LED lighting is plastered all over the notebook case. The badge of the lid, the sides and also the indicators above the keyboard are all lit up. This includes the rim of the touch pad also.

Performance & Benchmarks

When it comes to transfer of data, you cannot expect Asus G50Vt to do much. It has quite an impressive curriculum vitae of four USB 2 ports, 1394 Fire Wire, Ethernet, HDMI, SD/MMC card reader, VGA, input and output S/PDIF ports and a connector for external Wi-Fi.
Though the price of the Asus G50Vt is low and many do expect it not to work too well, this notebook is an exception. This G50Vt works extraordinarily well in gaming scenarios. It works really well for the cause it is designed for, so you really can’t test this laptop stringently for other functionalities – that would just make you look greedy!

The quality of sound is quite good for games, the clips on you tube and also for the windows sound effects. However, you might need a pair of headphones when it comes to moves and extended music.

Battery life

When the machine is running on full bore, Asus G50Vt acts like a battery hog you can get only about forty five minutes while playing games, the lights blinking and the level of performance set to the maximum. Asus does provide utilities to turn down the notebooks excess but the rear badge still lights up even when it is on the power saving mode. The light bar, the blue strip that runs around the touch pad also are lighted up when the system is on this mode. The time that the battery lasts for some how does not seem very impressive for a notebook of this sort. Even recharging the battery is not an easy task. You can store only up to one point of charge for every two minutes that the notebook is being charged.

The notebook is priced at $1250 with a unique look, stellar connectivity, screaming performance and a convenient secondary display. Nevertheless, Asus G50Vt does lack on the quality of sound. It has an awful battery life, loud styling and is extremely bulky.

ASUS M51Vr Review: Best Bet in Multimedia Laptop

This review deals with the latest offering from Taiwaneese notebook maker ASUS: the ASUS M51Vr, your best bet in multimedia laptop! It is a complete multimedia notebook targeted at the student’s segment of the market.

Build & Design

The ASUS M51Vr doesn’t lose points for the style or the looks department. It has a nice smooth finish and has various connectivity ports around it. It has the ASSUS logo inscribed on the top and the back panel consists of a big lid, which houses the CPU and the RAM modules. The rotatable webcam is practical for use and features like these which improve the overall look and feel of the product. It however loses ground on the build part thanks to its fragile design and it might not withstand a blow or two. The sturdiness of the model leaves very much in wanting.

The size of the display in ASUS M51Vr is 15.4 inches and has a WXGA+ resolution of 1440 x 900. The screen is of good quality, but its glare may prove to be a negative factor since it is found irritating after a period of continuous working. The webcam is also appropriately placed on the top of the display with maximum functionality. ASUS M70Vn Review: A Laptop That’s Big on Storage!

You won’t need the Recycle Bin or the Delete key with the ASUS M70Vn, as it is with one Terabyte memory, which means a laptop that’s big on storage! Add to that an amazing battery life and the ASUS M70Vn becomes your perfect desktop replacement.

Build & Design

The M70 named after a European road has a 16.1-inch wide display that will look huge no matter where you put it! ASUS M70Vn is larger than many multimedia focused laptops like the HP pavilion but is also a tad bit smaller than the Acer Aspire series that has an 18-inch display. It weighs a solid 8.8 pounds, very far from being an ultra-portable and therefore will not be going anywhere from your home. Going by its look, the M70 should easily merge in your living room or bedroom that has other consumer electronics because it’s purposely built in such a way. Moreover, M70Vn still looks a classy laptop with its black top that girls would adore for its reflective surface and a gray keyboard that complements it effectively.

Boasting a 17.1-inch screen and a fantastic resolution, the ASUS M70Vn is a viewer’s treat! What is best about the display of the M70 is the automatic light sensor that changes the brightness of the display automatically depending on the surrounding light. Moreover, like in many Asus laptops, a button called the Splendid button automatically adjusts various display settings depending on the application that is being run. From movies, to games, pictures to videos, the Splendid button automatically optimizes the display for superior viewing performance.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Since this is a desktop replacement, the M70 has a fully equipped keyboard with a numeric keypad to the right. There are four special buttons that sit above the board that is used for various media functionality. Otherwise, it looks like a simple bland keyboard except the fingerprint reader that is between the touchpad.

Above the touchpad, lies a Mode button that can switch your M70 into a neat media control panel. When you are in normal mode, the touchpad is dark grey in color but once you shift to the media mode, several glowing buttons that are white show various functions such as pause/play, rewind and forward. The scroll portion of the touchpad becomes a very useful volume control button. The best thing to do is to get an external mouse and keep the touchpad in multimedia mode forever.

Performance & Benchmarks

Testing the laptop based on Multi tasking abilities for multimedia, the M70 gave results that were as good as other desktop replacements that has a focus on entertainment. On the RAM test, the M70 did not do as well as other desktop replacements but the difference is only marginal. Like mentioned before, this isn’t exactly a gaming machine as can be proved with the results we got while playing Unreal Tournament. The frame rates were decent, but nothing compared to the Gateway P-172X FX.

Battery life

One thing that clearly stood out from the laptop was its unbelievable battery life!  It lasts nearly 2 and half hours during full battery loading, and is surely a boom if you find yourself traveling and working. Asus has truly outdone itself here, no one really expects fantastic battery performance with a wide screen display and multimedia capabilities!
