Asus Eee PC 1000HE Review

The Asus Eee PC 1000HE is the newest laptop from ASUS and flaunts a brand new keyboard and has an Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz processor. If you want a notebook with a longer battery life and reasonable price then this one is the god choice for the user.

Build & Design

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is sturdy in construction and build up with long-lasting plastics throughout, which keep its panel bend free. It has a black shiny lid and port placement. The laptop is a bit thinner, yet a little heavy with a weight of 3lbs. A three set of USB input is present around the periphery of the chassis and fits well in its backpack. A 1.3-megapixel webcam is present above the screen and a pair of microphones below. It features three USB ports, an Ethernet port, headphone and microphone jacks, an SD, SDHC and MMC memory card reader and a VGA output.

The 10.1-inch LCD display is present in the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE. The display is bright and good color is produced. Apart from that, backlight levels in the phone are very bright and consistent. A shining coating makes the image look good and popped out. Its panels give different viewing angles with the vertical one in 1000HE stays accurate for longer time. Horizontal angle allows you to share movie with someone on other side. The screen is small in size which is a down side.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS Eee PC 1000HE has a brand new keyboard with chicklet style. The keys are well spaced, so expect no cramping, which makes you feel very comfortable to type as keys action are smooth. The Shift Key is placed to the right of the up arrow. The new layout makes you commit less error while typing.

The Elantech touchpad with multitouch functions and metal framing is what the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE features. The touchpad is not very sensitive and response is slow. After using it constantly, the touchpad surface gradually comes off up on one side, but after pressing it back down it goes back to it state and doesn’t come up again. The touchpad is big enough and can be triggered from anywhere to its edge centre and all. The pad is somewhat uneasy to control.

Performance & Benchmarks

The performance of ASUS Eee PC 1000HE is driven on Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz with faster clock speed. The audio is good but absence of good subwoofer makes the laptop not being an option for. The heat and noise produced from the cooling fan is less. The video and gaming performance is average and the system performance is good for basic applications such as web browsing, typing document, editing photos. Hard drive Seagate 5400.5 access time is slower than the other. It is a good netbook with a longer battery life and a reasonable price.

The battery of ASUS Eee PC 1000HE has a high capacity of 63Wh and is larger. The battery continues tp last for 7 hours and 36 minutes when the wireless is active and the processor in auto mode. It can be made to last longer for 9.5 hours if you deactivate the wireless card, use the processor in power saving mode and reduce the brightness of the screen. You can carry it out for long time without running out of battery.

ASUS F6Ve Review

The ASUS F6Ve is amongst the fastest laptop released by ASUS till date and has been equipped with a processor2.66GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 and ATI Radeon Mobility 4570 graphics card into a 13.3″ chassis. It is not gaming desktop and a bit outdated in design, but a fast one for running many applications, compressing music files and video ones.

Build & Design

The ASUS F6Ve design is old-fashioned, as you might not be expecting from ASUS. The F6Ve has a lustrous tinted lid with a Spirograph-type pattern that is hardly noticeable. The palm rest is made up of plastic, which gives it a cheap look and the keys are non-lustrous. The machine has a high performance, but the build it has doesn’t support its performance. It is made up of plastic smart, which makes noise. The whole chassis is made of plastic, which makes it unappealing and unattractive. This build up is not what you may desire in a desktop with high caliber.

The ASUS F6Ve has 13.3″ WXGA Glossy LCD display, which is quite average when you consider other products of similar range. It uses the old screen format 16:10. Even though the panel is shiny but not very much reflective so reflection are less and so you have fewer glare shining back at you. The display quality is average, with sharp and exciting colors, which is common for shiny displays. When you take a view by a vertical angle, you can view few sweet spots before the colors starts to fade whereas horizontal viewing angles are far superior as the colors do not fade away even at steep angles.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS F6Ve has a full-size keyboard, but lacks multimedia keys. The keys on the right side of the keyboard are shrunken, so that the page navigation keys can fit well. It is quite comfortable to type on and it reacts by giving a smooth clicked when pressed. However, at certain times, keyboard is not good, as it produces some bend feeling while typing. The touchpad the F6Ve is from Synaptics, which is comfortable for you to use with no pause while using. The buttons are positioned so well that you will have no problem to trigger and it reacts by producing mild click. A force has to be applied to trigger.

Performance & Benchmarks

The ASUS F6Ve performance is good and it is power driven byIntel 2.66 GHz T9550 processor and ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 graphics card, which work very fast. If you desire an affordable notebook for gaming, then this 13.3″ notebook is a good bet, as it has been designed to run many applications at the same time. It is a best in terms of features, but there is a lot of scope for improvement.

The battery performance of ASUS F6Ve was quite dissatisfactory. The battery lasted for only 2 hours and 56 minutes, which is quite low. However, considering the fast processor and video card, you can accept the available battery life.

If the design and look can be made more attractive, then ASUS F6V will surely have a good response in the market.

Specifications of ASUS F6Ve:

Processor: 2.66GHz T9550 Core2Duo Processor from Intel

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory: 4GB DDR2 800 SDRAM

Display: 13.3″ WXGA Glossy LCD

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA hard disk drive (5400RPM)

Weight: 4lbs 14oz with battery, 5lbs 12oz travel weight

Dimensions: 12.2″ x 9″ x 1.2-1.4″

Pros: The performance is good, a nice keyboard

Cons: The design is outdated, build and design is not of high quality, which gives it a cheap look that doesn’t go as per its price.

Samsung NC20 Review

The Samsung NC20 is another laptop with great display from the house of Samsung after the release of NC10 in the market. It is a powerful machine and has great features. The netbook’s processor VIA Nano U2250 and graphics configuration make it stand different from the rest of the available options in the market. NC20 is perfect for an office set up.

Build & Design

The Samsung NC20 has a sturdy construction with no bend, simple in design yet stylish enough to attract the consumers. It is sleek with 1.2 inches in width and weighs only 3.4 pounds. A glossy metal belt is present all around the front and sides, which ensures the durability and reliability of the machine. The white design with matte plastic finish is very appealing and good for all kinds of users. The battery is placed at the back of notebook and held strongly by two latches.

The Samsung NC20 has a great display with 12.1 LCD and a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The display is nice and has crisp quality, extra pixels and a large LCD screen, which enables you to watch movies and browse with better viewing experience. There are eight brightness levels in NC20, but the lowest one is hardly used. Though the display is quite bright and shiny with yellow tint, yet it is quite good in presence of sunlight. S3 ScreenToys control panel is present, which can help you to adjust the display.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The keyboard of Samsung NC20 is quite wonderful withhighly desirable and dedicated ‘Pg Up’ and ‘Pg Down’ keys. The keyboard fits well into the space and is a width centimeter wider than that of the NC10. The keyboard is quite spacious with bigger keys and a nice spacing between the keys. The extra width will make you feel comfortable while typing. Even though the keys have got to make a less travel, but still nice action and the feel overall is very pleasant. As in most cases of Samsung products, keys are treated with Silver Nano technology to prevent the spread of bacteria, still the appearance is similar to the normal plastic ones.

The touchpad of Samsung NC20 is large and enables you to cover a wider screen in one swipe. There is single touchpad button in the centre, which behaves like two buttons. The surface of its touchpad is smooth and quite responsive. It performs multitasks allowing scrolling and pinching. A vertical scroller is present on the right. The power button is also placed on the right side hinge, which glows blue when the notebook is on.

Performance & Benchmarks

The Samsung NC20 is power driven by the all new Nano U2250 processor from VIA, which has been clocked at 1.3GHz, and Chrome9 HC3 graphics from VIA. Even though the clocked speed (1.3GHZ) is low, but sufficient for doing basic tasks. The hard drive is slow when you want to transfer some data. However, the Nano U2250 ran the wPrime 32M processor faster than the other processor. It is quick with transparent widows and file decryption but a bit slow at pixel reading, file encryption and virus scan.

When you talk about the battery performance of Samsung NC20, it does not let you down. A 6-cell battery powers the netbook. The battery last for nearly 4 hrs and 30 minutes when used without any restrictions. However, when some battery saving tips are used, the battery lasts for another 30mins. The recharging of the battery starts as soon as the charge level is below 98% in order to decrease the number of charge cycles.

Specifications of Samsung NC20

Processor: 1.3 GHz VIA Nano U2250

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home

Memory: 1 GB DDR2 RAM

Display: 12.1″ LCD Display, 1280 x 800 pixels

Hard Drive: 160 GB SATA HDD, 5400 RPM

Pros: Solid construction, Nice keyboard

Cons: Performance could have been better

ASUS W90 Review

ASUS W90 brings into the market a laptop with great multimedia features. The ASUS W90 is another top-notch product from ASUS. It is a new gaming laptop, which has come out to rule over the current lot of laptops.

W90 is a high entertainment machine and supports 18.4-inch display panel, the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 X2 or HD 3850 X2 dual graphics cards and 6GB of DDR2 SDRAM. This laptop is a good one for home user and gamers, who desires for a notebook with powerful multimedia features.

Build & Design

The ASUS W90 has a gaming notebook design, which means that it is pretty good and stylish. However, with all the high-end gaming features, the laptop is on the heavier side and weighs 13lbs. The chassis is 18.4-inch, which is in itself quite large. Still, the color is quite good with black brushed-metal and a small size ASUS logo inscribed in the front and center. It has an excellent build quality, strong frame and 3 cooling fans, which does not allow the notebook to bend when lifted. It looks almost like a tank with respect to size and weight.

The ASUS W90 power driven by Intel features an 18.4-inch ultra high bright LCD display. The LCD is covered with a sheet of plastic over it, which gives the notebook a stylish and a clean appearance. It has a gorgeous LCD with a resolution of1920×1080 (pixel) and a 16:9 aspect ratio. This resolution is good for enjoying a 1080p movie without stretching or scaling the screen. The brightly lit screen gives a great color quality with good contrast and wide viewing angles, which makes watching videos without any hassle. When the display lid is bent by an angle 45, a strange behavior is noticed as W90 wants to shut off.

Keyboard & Touchpad

The ASUS W90 has a full size keyboard and it fits well as its frame is 18.4″ and still some space is available for touch sensitive media keys on one side. The large keyboard deck has a black brushed-metal finish with a shiny black bezel that frames the keyboard. The keys are square in shape, which common to the ASUS laptops. The keys are comfortable for you to continue typing for long without straining your fingers. The key when pressed reacts back by producing a quiet crumpling plastic sound, so you can feel the action of the keys, which are very smooth. The touchpad of ASUS is sizeable and large, but with inclined edges around the border. The surface of the touchpad is smooth and has a matte texture. It is easy to use and you don’t have to apply force to click.

Performance & Benchmarks

The ASUS W90 can be easily counted amongst the fastest gaming notebook with Intel Core2Duo T9600 processor and dual ATI Radeon Mobility 4870 graphics cards added to it. Crysis, a game, can be played by the gamers only in this desktop. It is an excellent powerhouse of multimedia and number one graphics performer.

Battery performance of ASUS W90 is not that great, as it is a gaming notebook. Battery consumes more than other laptops and battery life is 1 hour and 30 minutes before it shutdown. The power can be saved by displaying one of the graphics card from BIOS. However, this is worthless doing, as it will make battery last for 20-30 minutes more but this makes us lose the graphics card from hardware.

Specifications of ASUS W90

Processor: 2.8GHz T9600 Core2Duo from Intel

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

Memory: 6GB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM

Display: 18.4″ Glossy FHD LCD

Hard Drive: 320GB Serial ATA, 7200RPM

Weight: 13lbs

Dimensions: 17.4″ x 12.91″ x 2.48″

Pros: Display is beautiful, comfortable keyboard

Cons: Weighs like a tank and battery life not decent

MSRP: $2,199.99 (Base Price)

Getac V100 review

When we talk about rugged tablets and laptop, Getac is counted amongst the most reputed makers in the world today and the Getac V100, which is fully rugged, can be treated as prime example of that. In spite of its rugged appearance, the one thing making the V100 special is screen rated to be at 1,200 nits in brightness! When we compare it with others, you’ll find that the good notebook’s screen are only rated as 250-nit ones.

Build & Design

When we talk about design of Getac V100, it is virtually a fully rugged notebook with an extremely boxy feel. There is nothing, which you can rate ‘consumer friendly’ for this design. V100 ’s magnesium alloy construction along with rubber bumpers, which cover the edges, are adequate for striking fear in processors of most average notebooks. Again, it has double the thickness of a standard 12-inch tablet or notebook with a price tag that matches the rugged build.

At first appearance, the laptop may appear the Getac V100 is missing all the ports. However, when you will go for a closer appearance, you will see an external port having its own waterproof door or cap. This build keeps the moisture and dirt off when they are not in use. It also protects fragile connectors when your tablet slips from your hand and hits the floor.

Getac V100 has a 10.4-inch touch screen, which has a 1024×768 resolution. It is bright enough for easily reading even under the bright sunlight. V100 also has a 12.4-inch widescreen display. Its colors are quite bright, but get a washed outlook due to the connectivity of its strong backlight and touchscreen surface. V100 is inclusive of a screen having a backlight, which is rated at 1,200-nit brightness.

Since the notebook is convertible, you have the option of rotating the screen of Getac V100 around for working in a tablet or slate manner. The touch screen of V100 works quite well, when we use a fingertip or pen. When in slate mode, you have the access of buttons on the front edge. Even though the screen can be rotated 180 degrees horizontally, you will be disappointed to find that you cannot completely rotate it at 360-degree angle.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Keyboard on Getac V100 is rugged and nice similar to the rest portion in this tablet. It is exceptionally comfortable for typing on it in spite of its small size. Standard sized black keys are provided with large white letters in order to improve visibility. Key size and spacing are average when you compared it with a 12-inch notebook. However, you will find the notebook to be slightly cramped, if you are used for desktop keyboards.

Synaptics touchpad of Getac V100 has a similar feel to any other touch pads. The size of touchpad is standard. Its sensitivity and control are also excellent. Touchpad buttons of Getac V100 are covered with a rubber shell. They have a shallow feedback and a noisy ‘click’ when pressed hard.

Performance & Benchmarks

The Getac V100 has been provided with a U7600 Core2Duo Merom processor from Intel, which functions at 1.2 GHz. The speed may sound slow in comparison to the latest tablets and notebooks, but it uses a sealed chassis, which has been passively cooled. Excess heat is dissipated through the use of metal chassis. When it comes to benchmarks, V100 may not shatter records. However, it is still powerful enough for handling regular MS Office work, light editing in Photoshop or browsing the web in the midst of combat zone.

Battery performance of Getac V100 is far from bring impressive. When you crank its screen up for maximum for usage, battery life was below 2 hours. Spare batteries will be a good idea for you in case you are looking for a longer battery life.

Bottom line is that you do not buy Getac V100 for fast performance or long battery life, you own it as the notebook can work on most environments.

Specifications of Getac V100

Processor: 1.2-GHz U7600 Core2Duo from Intel

OS: MS Windows XP

Memory: 1GB DDR2

Display: 10.4 -inch TFT touch screen

Hard drive: 120GB

Weight: 4.9lbs

Dimensions: 11.2in x 8.7in x 1.9in

Pros: Rugged Design, Sunlight readable display

Cons: Expensive, Poor Battery Life

Dell Latitude E6400 review

Dell Latitude E6400, a 14-inch laptop, has been targeted mainly towards the business classes, who require solid design, good performance and commonality in parts for their entire workforce. This laptop is competing against the Fujitsu LifeBook S7220 and HP EliteBook 6930p. The Latitude E6400 offers an extensive range in hardware configurations along with SSDs (Solid State Drives) for businesses requiring extreme performance and ruggedness.

Build & Design

Unlike their previous generation, which featured rounded curves and edges, Dell Latitude E6400 features a ‘down to business’ design for the industries. The chassis of Dell Latitude E6400 has been made of magnesium alloy and has plenty of sharpe angles and 90-degree edges. While it has a reasonably modern look, the build & design speaks volume of its overall durability.

During testing, there are no plastic squeaks and creaks could be heard thanks to its magnesium alloy structure. The overall bottom shell is a metal alloy and gives a strong footprint on the desk. It gives adequate strength for resisting the bend, in case you need to hold the laptop by its palm rest’s edge.

The Dell Latitude E6400’s matte WXGA+ (1440×900) screen is absolutely wonderful. You will not find any dead pixels and the backlight bleeding is also minimal. Colors of the Latitude E6400 are vibrant in spite of its matte screen. Additional benefits of the matte screens include the lack in reflection when working inside your office. The screen receives a sharp look at oddly contorted angles, as it has wide angles for viewing. Backlight adjustment in Dell Latitude E6400 is broad and will allow you to adjust it low, which is adequate settings for darker rooms, or high, when the atmosphere is quite bright.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Keyboard & palm rest structure of Dell Latitude E6400 is quite solid. However, thin alloys used for the palm rest do flex, when you apply pressure on it. If you press more firmly, keyboard suffers from a virtual zero flex, which is nice when it comes to considering D630.

Keyboard of Dell Latitude E6400 is quite comfortable for typing on and gives adequate responses for every key pressed. Key travel is almost similar to the current lot in business notebooks. However, they have a less clicking sound than most ThinkPads. The layout of keyboard is not cramped and its backlighting allows typing in a darker environment.

Alps Touchpad of Dell Latitude E6400 is present with a smooth texture. It is quite responsive, but can be improved. However, accuracy and lag time are worse than other competing business notebooks. Still, the touchpad’s surface size is large enough to control comfortably and its 2 buttons span the entire length.

Performance & Benchmarks

When it comes to configuration, Dell Latitude E6400 is provided with more than adequate space and speed for handling the needs of most users. The high-end Core2Duo P9500 processor from Intel and Quadro NVS 160M from nVidia has been combined to provide a reasonable fast notebook. Overall, the Latitude E6400 can be regarded as an excellent performer and can execute all applications or games.

When it comes to the battery life, the 9-cell lithium ion of Dell Latitude E6400 provides 4 hrs and 22 minutes when operated under normal condition. This is quite sufficient when you consider other notebooks with similar configuration.

So, get the Dell Latitude E6400 today and add more performance at the place of work!

Specifications of Dell Latitude E6400

ASUS N81Vp Laptop Review

ASUS N81Vp is the new 14.1″ multimedia laptop, which has been designed to handle everything a user can throw at it. Whether it’s decoding HD videos or playing the latest games, N81Vp performs the task with perfection. ASUS have packed with this notebook, a 4GB RAM along with a Core2Duo T9550 processor from Intel along with a 4650 Graphics Card from ATI having 1GB GDDR3 memory. The makers have not targeted any gaming market directly. Still if you look at the specs on hand, there is no reason why ASUS N81Vp cannot be counted amongst the high performing notebooks in 14.1″.

Build & Design

The ASUS N81Vp has got a very low key design, which makes it look classy from the outside.  The exterior of N81VP has been given a dark bronze and glossy black metallic paint finish with vertical broken-line pinstripe patterns. Inside, its color changes to ash-gold finish with similar pinstripe patterns on the palm rest and trimmed with chrome buttons on touchpad along with a black keyboard. Design is nice and appears similar to HP DV Series.

You will find the build quality to be above average with durable plastics that are used throughout their chassis. Fit and finish of the ASUS N81Vp is excellent and has no panel overhangs or rough edges. The chassis of the notebook is also very rigid with very little flex on the palm rest. Screen cover offers good protection and will show no ripples when you press your finger on the back of its LCD.

The 1366×768 16:9 ratio screen of the ASUS N81Vp is quite good when compared to similar size systems. It has an excellent contrast and color saturation features available from its glossy surface. You will find the backlight levels to be quite high and the bleed is also minimal around the ages. Screen of the N81Vp is usable even outdoors, till you are in shade for preventing it from the direct glare of the sun. Viewing angles are not flashy but average with screen quickly inverting at low angles and complete washout at higher angles. However, horizontal viewing angle is good and has minimum distortion.

Keyboard & Touchpad

Keyboard of ASUS N81Vp is a full-size one with no condensed key around its border. However, arrangement of the keys could have been better considering it is meant for high-end gaming. Function keys have been placed on the far left of the notebook taking the place of control button. Still, typing on this keyboard is comfortable, as little pressure is required for activating individual keys. Keys have matte finishing, which gives them a bit of traction when compared to the glossy key found on other laptops with similar features.

Large Synaptics touchpad of ASUS N81Vp is very responsive. You’ll find its sensitivity to be good after some adjustment. The matte surface texture is simple for gliding your fingers across, even if they are sweaty after a longer use. Touchpad buttons need a bit more pressure than others, which can get frustrating when working for prolonged hours.

Performance & Benchmarks

System performance, which you receive from the Core2Duo T9550 process of Intel and mobility Radeon 4650 of ATI, can be regarded well above the average when you consider a 14.1″ notebook. This system handles every modern game at native resolution. However, you will require tweaking the settings, if you wish to play Crysis on the ASUS N81Vp. Its 4GB RAM and 7200RPM Seagate drive allow the system to hum along with no hiccups and at a minimal load. Times for boot & shutdown are excellent and the speed is also visible in zippy installation of software to faster loading of the games.

Battery Life

Battery life of ASUS N81Vp is ordinary when compared to other 14″ laptops. However, not all of them have the T9550 processor or 4650 graphics card. It gives 2.5 hours of power when operated at full load.

Barring its shabby battery life, you will find no other reasons for not buying ASUS N81Vp. So get your piece at only $1,399 from your nearest store, today!
